castaways and cutouts
intrigued by “her majesty” and the song “here i dreamt i was an architect,” i decided to give the pirate music another spin. i like this album better than the group’s other, newer effort.

i can’t say i know, or particularly want to know, how to make in html the o-umlaut, or whatever it is, for royksopp’s name. another electronic cd, it has its moments, but lacks the staying power of the other albums i listened to.
the pop-iest of the electronic albums i perused. quite good - very pretty, catchy melodies. i found a remix of “off the rails” on the internet, which i think like better than the album version, though both are good. it’s funny how different a remix of a song can be.
another of the electronic albums i investigated for danny’s birthday. this cd is very glitchy, and as a result is a cd more demanding of a particular mood than the others i pulled up. still good. a pitchfork recommendation.
i have long had a copy of “(this is) the dream of evan and chan,” and for just as long have loved that song. this was the first of a handful of albums i investigated to cull music for my brother’s yearly electronic birthday mix. a handful of not too terribly offensive filler, and a handful of very good songs.
reviews say it is highly reminiscent of neutral milk hotel, but i’m not so sure i agree. pirate music.
