i don't want to be seen as a pretty thing;
it's the pretty things we're always breaking

wcal is reborn

there are many reasons i would like to live in the twin cities. while being closer to family and friends would be the biggest plus, a close second is the draw of the music scene in minnesota. many of my favorite musical acts call minneapolis home (love-cars, kid dakota/olympic hopefuls, 12 rods … at least, while they played). it pains me every time i miss a show for one of these groups, like, for example, two weeks ago when olympic hopefuls played and the few nice words, a love-cars member side project, opened.

anyway, imagine my surprise to see this article on pitchfork this morning. when i heard, a few months ago, that WCAL had been bought out, i was sad, since i figured it was just another victim in the long line of clear channel homogenization. instead, they’re creating an indie playground. god bless minnesota. i wish i could get minnesota public radio here in madison (since MPR is a fair sight better than WPR). i miss MPR.

so, to everyone living in the twin cities, and its greater metropolitan area : go to love-cars concerts and listen to WCAL for me.

inside deep throat

this movie is certainly more sensational than your average documentary, but, at its heart, that’s all it really is: a documentary. it was kind of interesting, but was not as interesting as any of the other documentaries i’ve seen this past year (touching the void, fog of war, i am trying to break your heart, super size me, or even fahrenheit 9/11).

home for the holidays

i’m not quite sure how this got on the netflix queue, but somehow it did. this was amusing, mostly due to the presence of robert downy jr., who is able to put on a show.

oz, season 2

christopher meloni is creepy.

six feet under, season 1

here’s another great tv series lea and i have been chewing through. a very different tone than oz, to be sure.
