i don't want to be seen as a pretty thing;
it's the pretty things we're always breaking

fahrenheit 9/11

this “documentary” is a rapid fire and unfocused collection of criticisms against george w. bush. i was already rather anti-bush, so it didn’t take much convincing, which is good, because moore seems to be trying to instill a general sense of malaise against bush, and lacks a clear point.

gold fever

to all you olympians who graciously accept and embrace bronze medals: i salute you. to all you olympians who bitch and moan when you have to settle for silver, grow up.

the village

i really like william hurt, and i found that this movie met my expectations of shyamalan, and exceeded what i was led to expect by reviews i glanced at before i saw it. the movie has certainly managed to get slammed by critics, but i, the perennial movie-lover (and, as such, lackluster movie critic) tend to agree more with what this person has to say.

pecker

this movie is odd in that it has a very strong aw-shucks, happy-go-lucky feel to it at the same time that it nonchalantly discusses teabagging and dry humping drying machines.

victory begins at home

standup from bill maher. there were some very funny moments, and some moments that i couldn’t quite swallow.

choke

chuck palahniuk

this book uses the story of its main character primarily as a vehicle for palahniuk to present and push a worldview. the worldview presented is similar in many ways to that presented in fight club (the movie: i haven’t read the book, yet). i don’t necessarily agree with what palahniuk says, but at least he’s willing to say it.

a walk in the woods

bill bryson

i primarily read this book on the plane ride out to colorado. it’s pretty funny, and interesting.
