i don't want to be seen as a pretty thing;
it's the pretty things we're always breaking

mushroom chicken angel

i doubled the sauce listed for this recipe, as was suggested by some of the reviews. it was a little salty, but nothing terrible; pretty easy, pretty tasty.

sausage and peppers and beer

sausage and peppers with a sauce made of tomato paste and beer. mmm. a little heavy, but heavy can be good. (recipe)

white-knuckling

today was not the best of days to be on the road; though there was no snow here in madison, south central/south east minnesota was getting pounded. i got to test out how the civic handles on ice, as i (unwillingly, and in a state of fright) fishtailed my way across a bridge on us-169, and narrowly avoided rear-ending a long line of cars. i consider the new tires i put on my car a couple of months ago to have just paid for themselves in insurance and repairs. i then got to admire all the pretty cars in the ditch (more or less one car every mile) as i drove down i-35, and almost put my car into a bridge guardrail (those sneaky bridges just love being coated with ice). all of this was just to get from eden prairie to northfield. weighing the pros and cons in northfield, i decided to take off before it got any worse, instead of waiting around for ploughs to get out on the roads. the snow didn’t let up until i descended into the mississippi valley at la crosse, at which point the rest of the trip, through wisconsin, was a comparative driving nirvana.
