kill bill: volume 1
oh so bloody: the numerous decapitations are invariably accompanied by spraying jets of blood. lots of fight scenes with camera tricks. katanas. anime interlude. strange, but good. the more i think about it, the more i like it.

anthony hopkins is scary. this is only the second time i have seen this movie; i hadn’t remembered just how sexually charged it is. creepy.
all snide comments about christopher columbus aside, happy columbus day. no one around here knows or cares that it even is columbus today. perhaps more people would care if google had a special banner up to commemorate the event. i know i would.
dan suggested that we celebrate amerigo vespucci day instead of christopher columbus day, although then we would have to wait until march 9th to celebrate a “i don’t care if it’s a holiday or not because i don’t get a day off work for it” day. i like the idea of vasco de gama day, if for no other reason than i like saying “de gama day.”
i guess this qualifies as a blustery memoir, and as such, it is the most recent in my long running nonfiction kick. i read this on recommendation from noah, and would recommend it to others. i bought this book at canterbury books downtown, a nice store to which i will return.
brando, thin, already an animal. part of my campaign to verse myself in some classics.
drew will be proud. i purchased apple cider on saturday at the farmer’s market, and just tonight sampled it. there are many marvelous things about fall, but among my favorites is burning my tongue bit by bit sipping down scalding apple cider. apple cider tastes best whilst still much too hot to safely drink, unfortunately. mmm.
over the past two days i have watched the first season of homicide and the latter half of the first season of the sopranos. uplifting. truly. there are many worse ways to while away an evening.
intrigued by “her majesty” and the song “here i dreamt i was an architect,” i decided to give the pirate music another spin. i like this album better than the group’s other, newer effort.
i started these when i moved to madison, but it took me a couple of months to watch the latter half of the season. i know i’m a few years late in watching these, but they seem to have kept well, seeing how as i enjoyed them.
today at work i found a box of lapsang souchong tea, so i made myself a cup (styrofoam glassful). the taste and smell of it reminded me distinctly of a campfire, in a good way. according to some random website, lapsang souchong is “distinctly smoky flavored” version of souchong, which is a high grade of chinese tea. all i know is that i liked it. stash tea has another description of it, and is particularly funny, mostly because of its name. indeed, when i was talking about it with drew today i commented that it reminded me of scotch, in a way. it occurs to me that i know little to nothing about tea, and i’d like to know more, whether through wisdom imparted from douglas adams, or via “stash tea.”
according to the weather.com, this morning madison tied its all time record low temperature for this day of the year: 22 degrees fahrenheit. this is, of course, but a taste of things to come. at least i didn’t have to scrape my car.
this cold weather is getting me all geared up to participate in some sort of life threatening “recreational” activity, like a polar bear club or downhill skiing. just kidding. maybe i’ll just sit inside and drink cider.
